QRdex

Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 16, 2026

QRdex (“the app”) is built to work entirely on your phone. There are no accounts, no ads and no analytics of our own, and we do not run any server that receives your data. This policy explains exactly what the app does with the little information it touches.

1. Information the app uses on your device

  • Camera. Used only to scan codes. Camera frames are analysed on your device in real time and are never saved or uploaded by the app.
  • Photos you choose. If you pick a picture from your gallery (to scan a code in it, or as a logo for a QR code), the app uses Android’s photo picker. It can only see the one image you select, and the app does not request general storage or photo-library permission.
  • Scan and creation history. The text of codes you scan or create, with the time, is stored in a private database on your device so you can find it later. You can delete one item, or clear everything, from the History screen. Uninstalling the app removes it. Android cloud backup is switched off for the app, so history is not copied to your Google account.
  • Settings. Your theme, sound and vibration choices are stored on the device.
  • QR images you save. If you tap Save, the image is written to Pictures/QRdex on your device. It stays there like any other photo until you delete it.

2. Information we do not collect

We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, location, contacts, advertising ID or any other personal information. The Add Contact button only opens your Contacts app with the details from the code pre-filled; the app never reads your address book.

3. Google ML Kit and Google Play services

Code recognition uses Google ML Kit barcode scanning, delivered through Google Play services. The actual reading of a code happens on your device. According to Google’s published ML Kit data disclosure, ML Kit may also send diagnostic and usage information to Google — such as device model and OS version, the app’s package name and version, performance metrics, error codes and per-installation identifiers — protected with HTTPS, and Google states it does not transfer this data to third parties. This processing is carried out by Google under the Google Privacy Policy and the ML Kit data disclosure. The content of the codes you scan is not part of it.

4. Links, sharing and other apps

  • The app never opens a scanned link by itself. A web address opens only when you tap Open Link, and it opens in your browser, where that website’s own privacy policy applies.
  • When you share a QR image or text, Android’s share sheet hands it to the app you choose (for example WhatsApp, Telegram or Gmail). From that point the receiving app’s policy applies.
  • Copying a Wi-Fi password or other text puts it on your device clipboard, which other apps may be able to read for a short time, depending on your Android version.

5. Keeping and deleting your data

All of your data lives on your device, so you are in control of it. Delete single items or clear all history inside the app, delete saved images from your gallery, or uninstall the app (or clear its storage in Android settings) to remove everything. Because we do not hold a copy, there is nothing on our side to delete.

6. Children

The app is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.

7. Security

The app’s own code makes no network connections and keeps your history in app-private storage. No method of storing data is perfectly secure, so please avoid creating QR codes that contain secrets you would not want others to see, because anyone who scans a code can read what is inside it.

8. Changes to this policy

If the app’s data practices change we will update this page and the effective date above. The latest version is always available inside the app and on our website.
